Texas Open Carry Law

As of January 1, 2016 Texas House Bill 910 becomes effective. This house bill makes it legal for individuals who have a License To Carry (formerly called a Concealed Handgun License) to openly carry a handgun in either a belt or shoulder holster.

At this time, there are no restrictions on the type of holster, but we recommend the use of a Level I Retention Holster at a minimum. Openly carrying a handgun brings with it the responsibility of insuring that unauthorized access to your handgun is kept to a minimum.

License holders who wish to carry openly, must abide by the same laws that were initially established for concealed handgun carriers with the exception of insuring that the handgun is not in plain sight.
